Molasses alcohol

Nedstar is known for its premium-quality molasses alcohol. This exceptional product is primarily derived as a byproduct from sugarcane or sugar beet processing. By utilising this renewable and sustainable resource, we produce molasses alcohol through the process of fermentation, converting the sugars in molasses into ethanol.

The production of molasses alcohol

Molasses alcohol is primarily made from molasses, which is a byproduct of sugar production. Molasses is obtained from sugarcane or sugar beet processing. During sugar refining, the juice extracted from sugarcane or sugar beets is boiled to remove the sugar crystals. The residual syrup-like substance left after crystallisation is molasses. This molasses contains residual sugars that can be fermented to produce alcohol.

Alcoholic beverages

Molasses alcohol is the key ingredient in rum, shaping its unique flavour profile across varieties from light and white to dark and spiced rum.

Cocktails and mixed drinks

Molasses-based rum adds depth and complexity to classic cocktails like Mojitos, Piña Coladas, Daiquiris, and Mai Tais.

Culinary applications

Used in cooking and baking, molasses alcohol brings sweetness and richness to rum cakes, sauces, glazes, and marinades.

Confectionery and desserts

Molasses alcohol enhances chocolates, truffles, fudges, and rum-infused desserts such as cakes, puddings, and ice creams.

Industrial applications

Molasses ethanol is used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and chemical production as a solvent, ingredient, or precursor cleaning agents.

Solvent and extraction

Molasses alcohol serves as a solvent for extracting flavours and active compounds from botanicals and herbs in tinctures, extracts, and more.

Chemical synthesis

It functions as a feedstock in chemical synthesis, producing compounds like organic acids, esters, and aldehydes.

Biofuel

Molasses alcohol can be blended with gasoline to create sustainable ethanol fuels that cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Eco-friendly ethanol production from molasses

Molasses ethanol, derived from the byproduct of sugar production, is an eco-friendly alcohol with several environmental benefits. Molasses ethanol is considered environmentally friendly for several reasons:

1-Jan-09-2026-08-23-41-9713-PM

Waste utilisation

Molasses ethanol transforms a sugar industry byproduct into a valuable resource, reducing waste and environmental impact.

2-Jan-09-2026-08-23-42-0109-PM

Renewable resource

Produced from sugarcane or sugar beet, molasses ethanol is a renewable alternative to finite fossil fuels, supporting sustainable energy production.

3-Jan-09-2026-08-23-42-1283-PM

Reduced emissions

Compared to fossil fuels, molasses ethanol has a lower carbon footprint and emits less CO₂ and other greenhouse gases during its lifecycle.

4-Jan-09-2026-08-23-42-1597-PM

Carbon neutrality potential

When CO₂ emissions from molasses ethanol combustion are captured and reused, it can achieve carbon-neutral or even carbon-negative outcomes.
