Job description

This isn’t your average internship. As a Commodity Trading Intern, you’ll work directly with our commercial team to learn the fundamentals of trading and gain hands-on experience with business development, sales, and account management.

You’ll act as a Business Development Representative (BDR) for our traders, identifying and qualifying leads, building new connections, and helping expand Nedstar’s global network. Whether it’s mapping new markets or calling prospects, you'll be at the heart of our growth engine.

Based in our Amsterdam office, you’ll also gain exposure to client visits, international markets, and day-to-day life in a high-performing commercial team.

About the role and key responsibilities

  • Business development & lead generation: Researching and identifying new prospects and helping to expand Nedstar’s commercial reach across the globe.
  • Cold calling & first outreach: Getting hands-on with outreach via phone and email.
  • Lead qualification: Evaluating and enriching incoming leads in our CRM (HubSpot) to support follow-up and prioritisation for our traders.
  • CRM support: Making sure all relevant lead and customer data is captured accurately, including leads from fairs and events.
  • Trading & Account management: Assisting in the follow-up and care of smaller accounts, helping maintain satisfaction and identifying upsell opportunities.
  • Sample logistics & support: Managing the distribution of product samples and ensuring prospects receive what they need, when they need it.
  • Commercial team support: Offering ad hoc help to our traders and assisting in ongoing sales projects.

Your profile

  • A motivated, ambitious, and commercially curious student looking to get real-world business development experience.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken). Additional languages, especially French, Spanish, or German, are a plus.
  • Strong communication skills. Being comfortable picking up the phone, writing outreach messages, and having real conversations.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, able to research leads, map markets, and think critically about commercial opportunities.
  • Organised, especially when it comes to our CRM HubSpot updates, lead tracking, and follow-ups.
  • Studying towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international business, economics, trade, or a related field.
  • Excited about working in a fast-paced, international setting with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility.

What is in it for you?

  • A front-row seat to the world of international trade and commodities.
  • Gain hands-on business development experience.
  • Real hiring possibility by the end of the internship.
  • The opportunity to work in a global B2B company with a flat hierarchy and an international team.
  • Training and mentorship from experienced commercial professionals.
  • A flexible and open company culture that values work-life balance, including opportunities for various team activities.
  • A fast-paced environment that rewards initiative, ownership, and enthusiasm.
