Our other products: Caustic Soda

Is caustic soda dangerous?

Caustic soda (scientific name, sodium hydroxide) is a chemical compound widely used as a cleansing agent in industrial processes, but also in a variety of other common products and processes. Being caustic (which means able to burn or corrode human and other organic tissue), sodium hydroxide can harm people who come in contact with it if proper protocols are not followed. Typical injuries include burning of the eyes or skin. Many companies have therefore developed an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the safe handling of caustic soda.

However, products made from caustic soda are not themselves caustic and therefore quite safe to use. So for example caustic soda becomes quite harmless when mixed with fats and oils to create soap, a process known as saponification.

Nedstar and caustic soda

Nedstar sources its caustic soda products from a broad network of producers. We can tailor everything, from the product itself or its region of origin to the way it’s packed and shipped, to meet your specific needs.

We normally supply caustic soda in one of three forms: caustic soda pearls, caustic soda flakes or liquid caustic soda. These three forms are obviously chemically very similar. So it’s important to identify which form (pearls, flakes or liquid), but also what degree of purity or solubility, are best suited to your purposes. Feel free to get in touch if you need advice.

Caustic soda pearls

At Nedstar, we supply both regular caustic soda pearls and micropearls (also referred to as sodium hydroxide pearls or sodium hydroxide pellets). Most suppliers offer caustic soda pearls in 25 kg bags. However, at Nedstar we offer a range of packaging and delivery options. Just ask us for more details (contact details below).

Caustic soda pearls are ideal for use in soaps, detergents and industrial cleaning purposes. In addition, you’ll find caustic soda pearls used for processing vegetable oils, paper and many other products.

Caustic soda flakes

At Nedstar, we offer a range of options for shipping and packaging your caustic soda flakes (also known as sodium hydroxide flakes), and will do everything we can to meet your specific requirements. Get in touch to discuss the possibilities.

Caustic soda flakes are caustic soda in a solid form that dissolves easily in water. This makes them ideal for various applications, including the cleansing and handling of water in various industrial processes. Like other forms of caustic soda, caustic soda flakes are also used in the production of soaps, detergents, vegetable oil, paper and other everyday products.

Liquid caustic soda

Nedstar supplies liquid caustic soda in 48%, 50% and a variety of other concentrations, as required. We can also ship and pack the product to your specifications. Just get in touch and we’ll find the ideal solution for you.

Liquid caustic soda is also referred to as liquid sodium hydroxide and lye. Like caustic soda flakes and pearls, liquid caustic soda is used as a cleaning agent in industrial environments, and to produce soap, detergents, vegetable oil, paper, and many other everyday products, such as aluminium and resins.
